No one is sure about the origin of the name. It was adopted to describe the lake - hence Kondinin Lake - and when the town grew up it was duly named after the lake but no one is sure what 'kondinin' means. It was a local First Nations word first recorded by Surveyor General John Septimus Roe in 1848. Source: https://www.aussietowns.com.au/town/kondinin-wa

The town of Kondinin began life as a railway station on the railway line from Yilliminning (near Narrogin) to Kondinin, built from 1911 to 1915. The district around Kondinin was already settled when the government chose to construct a railway line here in 1911.
The townsite was gazetted in 1915. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kondinin,_Western_Australia

Kondinin is in the heart of wheat, sheep and canola farming country in Western Australia's Central Wheatbelt.
It boasts granite rocks with spectacular views and woodlands with vibrant wildflowers and gum trees.

Kondinin is located at the western end of the Kondinin Shire and is 272 kms south-east of Perth.
The Shire has three towns: Kondinin, Karlgarin and Hyden.

Kondinin was firstly settled in 1909 and was surveyed in 1910 by Surveyor General J.S. Roe.
Industries in the shire consist of grain growing, livestock, manufacturing and tourism.
